Halloween in the city
October is by far the scariest month of the year in London, and with the city having so many historical buildings and an often-gory heritage going back centuries, there are plenty of spooktacular events going on near to our Hyde Park accommodations.
One such event that no self-respecting Harry Potter fan should miss is Dark Arts at Warner Bros Studio: The Making of Harry Potter. This special Halloween-inspired event runs from the end of September right the way up until the middle of November this year, so you’ve got plenty of dates to choose from to coincide with your stay at our Hyde Park accommodations.
Here, you can take a look at the darker side of the popular film series with a visit to the great hall, adorned with floating pumpkins for the occasion. There is also the opportunity to battle a Death Eater and to get up close to some of the intricate and realistic costumes and props used in the films too, so it is a must for any would-be wizard or witch this October!
To reach the studios from the Park Grand London Hyde Park, take the train from nearby Ashfields station and you'll reach your final destination in just over an hour.
If you want something that isn't for the faint-hearted or younger visitor to London, then a walking tour around nearby Hyde Park (located just a short stroll from our hotel) is perfect for adults and older children.
A special event tour that runs around Halloween, this offers visitors access to one of the UK's only pet cemeteries, nestled in a quiet corner of the park. This space was used as a final resting place for pets from the Victorian Era and is closed to visitors much of the year. Tread carefully amongst the small headstones which mark the graves of much-loved pets from centuries ago while your tour guide lets you into a few chilling stories about the cemetery and surrounding parklands.
International beers come to the capital
If you want to escape all of those fancy-dress outfits and spooky tales and swap them for some great beers, German fayre and oompah bands, then the London Oktoberfest is the event for you!
Coming to the capital from the 3rd to the 6th of October this year, get ready to be amazed by the Bavarian beers and amazing outfits which make this special gathering one of the most well-attended beer appreciation events of the entire year.
With special seating options for groups, couples and individuals, you can’t help but join in with the amazing atmosphere and are sure to be up on your feet dancing amongst the long rows of tables before long. This year, the London Oktoberfest is being held at the Olympia London in West Kensington which is located just a 30-minute stroll (or stumble) away from our Hyde Park accommodations. However, the best way of getting there is via the Tube, so take the Piccadilly line to the venue, and you'll arrive in just over twenty minutes.
Diwali: Festival of Light – The National Maritime Museum
Combining the beautiful celebrations of Diwali with one of the capital's most famous museums, anyone staying at the Park Grand London Hyde Park on Saturday the 26th of October can celebrate this important lunar festival and join in the family fun on offer.
Watch performances from popular Bollywood dance troupes and even try a few moves out for yourself. You can also get crafty with a couple of hands-on activities which show the triumph of light over darkness before joining in with the dazzling parade as the sun goes down in the city.
This is a free event that is sure to be well attended, so make sure that you leave our Hyde Park accommodations just after breakfast if you want to make the most out of the day. The celebrations starts at 11am and finish at around 5pm with the final parade.
To get there from the Park Grand London Hyde Park, take the Piccadilly line from nearby Knightsbridge station, and you'll reach the museum in just over 40 minutes.
Darbar Festival 2019 – The Barbican
If the Diwali festival has whetted your appetite for Indian dance and music, then a trip to the Barbican from the 10th to 13th of October is a great way to experience more classical Indian music. It will also give you the chance to see some world-famous artists in action.
With performances from legendary artists Budhaditya Mukherjee and Shivkumar & Rahul Sharma as well as blissful morning ragas to start your day serenely, there are plenty of special events taking place throughout the festival at all times of the day and night. We highly recommend squeezing in a trip to the Barbican no matter what else you’ve got planned during your time at our Hyde Park accommodations.
The 14th consecutive festival of its kind, visitors from all over the globe will gather together at this annual celebration of exotic music. It evokes tales of Indian summers and exotic landscapes, so be sure to head to the Barbican Centre during your time in London to catch a performance or two before this enlightening and unique musical festival comes to an end.
